Piero Gleijeses
Piero Gleijeses (Venecia, Italia, 4 de agosto de 1944) es profesor de política exterior de Estados Unidos en la Escuela de Estudios Internacionales Avanzados Paul H. Nitze (SAIS) de la Universidad Johns Hopkins. Es reconocido por sus estudios académicos sobre la política exterior cubana bajo Fidel Castro, que le valieron una beca Guggenheim en 2005, y también ha publicado varias obras sobre la intervención estadounidense en América Latina. Es el único académico extranjero al que se le ha permitido el acceso a los archivos del gobierno cubano.
Gleijeses obtuvo un doctorado en relaciones internacionales del Instituto Universitario de Altos Estudios Internacionales de Ginebra y domina el afrikáans, el francés, el alemán, el italiano, el portugués, el ruso y el español.
Su libro de 2002, Conflicting Missions: Havana, Washington and Africa, 1959–1976, fue un exhaustivo análisis de la participación cubana en la descolonización de África y ganó el Premio Robert H. Ferrell de la SHAFR en 2003. Visiones de la libertad (2013) retoma el tema de Misiones en conflicto al analizar el choque entre Cuba, Estados Unidos, la Unión Soviética y Sudáfrica en el sur de África entre 1976 y 1991.
Además de revistas académicas, Gleijeses ha colaborado con publicaciones como Foreign Affairs y la London Review of Books.
